Privacy Policy for StoPoint

1. Our Story and Promise
StoPoint was created by a solo developer as a personal tool to manage family schedules and therapy logs.
Our Mission: We believe tools meant to help you manage your life shouldn’t be a financial or privacy burden. StoPoint is intentionally “Privacy-First” and “Zero-Cost.” We do not have servers, we do not show ads, and we do not sell data.
Privacy is our foundational principle. StoPoint does not collect, harvest, or upload your personal data to any external servers.
Location Data (Background Access)
- Purpose: To automatically log visits, StoPoint requires “Allow all the time” location access. This allows the app to detect geofence transitions even when the app is closed or not in use.
- Processing: Location triggers are handled by the device’s Operating System. StoPoint only records the entry/exit time and the place name to your local database. To maximize battery efficiency, we prioritize reusing recent location data already cached by the system (Radio Discipline) before requesting a new GPS radio wake-up.
- Platinum Guard (Direct Boot): To ensure reliability after a phone reboot, a minimal, encrypted cache of geofence events may be stored in “Device Protected” storage until you first unlock your phone.
Physical Activity Data (NEW)
- Purpose: StoPoint requests Physical Activity permission to enable Smart Silence.
- Use Case: This allows the app to detect when you are in a vehicle so it can suppress arrival notifications while you are driving, ensuring a distraction-free experience.
- Privacy: This data is processed in real-time on your device and is never stored permanently or shared.
- Purpose: Used for the on-device document scanner.
- Processing: Images of receipts or PDFs are processed using on-device AI (Google ML Kit). No images are uploaded to the cloud. The extracted text and images remain in the app’s private local storage.
Android Auto
- Functionality: StoPoint provides an Android Auto interface to view nearby places and recent visits.
- Data Flow: This data is pulled directly from your phone’s local database and displayed on your car’s screen. No personal data is shared with the vehicle’s manufacturer or third-party car systems.
3. Data Storage and Security
- 100% Local: We do not own or operate cloud servers. Your database is stored strictly on your phone.
- Encryption: Your local database utilizes Android’s built-in storage encryption.
- Selective Backup: For maximum privacy, we have strictly disabled Google Cloud Backup. No application data, visits, or settings are ever synced to Google’s servers. However, we have enabled Device-to-Device transfer, which allows your data to be migrated to a new phone during your initial setup (via direct cable or local WiFi).
- Vault Backups (.spv): You can manually create a backup file containing your database, settings, and media. This file is generated locally and stored only where you choose. You are responsible for its security and sharing.
- Internet Usage (Maps & Search): StoPoint requires Internet access solely for the Google Maps SDK to display map tiles and perform address searches. No personal tracking data, visit history, or receipt images are ever transmitted over this connection. All tracking logic remains strictly local.
4. Third-Party Services
We use industry-standard tools to provide core app functionality. These services may access device identifiers solely for functional purposes:

5. Advertisements and Tracking
- Zero Ads: StoPoint is completely ad-free. We do not host or display third-party advertisements.
- Zero Tracking: We do not monitor your behavior, record your app usage patterns, or use third-party analytics services to track your activity.
- No Analytics / No Telemetry: We do not use Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, Sentry, or any other telemetry tools. We have no way of knowing how you use the app or where you go. Your crashes and usage patterns are your own.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
- User Control: You can delete individual visits, documents, or places at any time within the app. Disabling tracking for a location will automatically terminate and finalize any active visit log for that place to ensure no “ghost” data is recorded while you intend for tracking to be off.
- Full Wipe: Uninstalling the app or “Clearing Data” in Android Settings will permanently delete all StoPoint data. We cannot recover deleted data because we never had a copy. Note that because Google Cloud Backup is disabled, data will not be automatically restored from the cloud upon reinstallation.
- Device-to-Device Portability: You can migrate your data to a new device via the direct Device-to-Device transfer during initial phone setup. You can also export your data at any time via the SPV Backup, CSV, or PDF features.
7. Age Restrictions
StoPoint is a utility app intended for use by adults (aged 18 and over). We do not knowingly collect information from children.
